Today is a big day for all softball players - it's the first official day of the softball season! Though the season is starting, and I don’t feel very confident about it. Attending every practice, I’ve noticed the prominent issues with having an extremely large team. We had a couple of meetings prior with about 40 girls interested in joining. That’s insane! We definitely won’t be able to be a strong team this year with this many people. At practice, I’m often helping out the newer players. I teach them the fundamentals on how to catch properly, throw with their bodies, and sometimes even batting. This year, we also advanced up to the A division, so the games will be much more difficult and the teams that we will be playing against will perform at a higher level. I hope that we do cuts soon. Practices are super unproductive because we have to manage so many people.
Being co-captain this year surprisingly doesn’t feel any different from what I’ve been doing in the past few years. My experience being captain of the basketball team actually helped me familiarize the position (but in a different sport). Whether it’s making announcements and posts on classrooms or teaching others, it feels great to be an active member of the team.
