So far, I have attended all of the meetings. We meet on Thursdays and are currently working on creating a Yearbook cover. First, we looked through various old yearbooks, all of which contained a variety of colors and textures. One that drew a lot of people’s attention had fabric on the cover. Another was more simplistic, having small indentations of text. Others popped extremely – for instance, there was a circus glazed yearbook. After extensive discussion, we finally agreed on a theme and a cover. We would have 20 on the back, 18 in the front (designed), see photo below. The theme is going to be “Here’s to…” followed up with “the 7th graders, the seniors, the crazy ones, etc.” throughout the inside of the book. This was inspired by Steve Jobs’ “Here’s to the misfits…” speech, as we felt it portrayed our grade best.
I began to explore the Yearbook making website, where we can utilize photoshopping and design skills. There are also sample pages that we can work from as a template.

Today, we discussed the draft of a possible Yearbook cover. First, the dots after the “Here’s to…” works, but we wanted to see what it would look like with them lined up at the bottom or in the center. We also wanted to fix the format of the 20 and 18, as the numbers in 20 are closer together than those of 18. Moreover, the globe seemed a little too big. After debating over whether it was necessary, we came to a conclusion that it should become the size of a dot. Everything else in the yearbook cover looks nice. We agreed on having the gray area as a silver metallic, and the texture of the cover as matte.

During this relatively short meeting, we finalized our cover for the Yearbook. Everything mentioned in the previous reflection is fixed – the lining up of 2018 and the globe. We were also able to envision how the alignment of dots would look, in which we agreed upon having them lined up from the bottom. It felt awkward to have the dots lined up from the center, as they did not seem to set off a “…” for the rest of the yearbook to fill. The cut on the 2 and 1 also looks great, as it puts a twist on the simplistic font that we have on the cover. Overall, we are very happy with what we came up with. For the next meeting, we plan on coming with sections and pages and assigning respective yearbook members to complete them.
MEETINGS HELD ON THURSDAYS FROM 2:45PM – 4:00PM AND SOMETIMES LUNCH FROM 12:50PM – 1:33PM.
